Galvanized Rubber (EPDM) Bonded Washers

Galvanized EPDM bonded washers are steel washers with an EPDM rubber seal bonded to the underside. When a screw is tightened, the rubber compresses and seals the hole against water and air. They are used under the heads of machine screws and self-tapping sheet metal screws on metal roofing, siding, gutters and enclosures. We stock sizes #8 through 3/8".

Which side of an EPDM bonded washer faces the roof?
The rubber side faces the work surface, and the steel side sits under the screw head.

How tight should I drive the screw?
Tighten until the rubber just starts to bulge slightly at the edge. If you go further, you crush the seal.
