Button heads are lower and rounded, for a neat look and less snagging. They are for lighter loads; use socket head cap screws where full strength is needed.

How are metric screws measured?
Diameter x pitch x length, in millimeters. Length is measured from under the head to the end of the screw, except flat (countersunk) heads, which are measured overall.

What tap drill and clearance hole for M4 x 0.7?
Tap drill: 3.3mm. Clearance hole: 4.5mm (normal fit).
