FAQ

What is the difference between USS coarse and SAE fine thread?
Coarse (USS/UNC) thread has fewer threads per inch, such as 1/4-20, and is the most common. Fine (SAE/UNF) thread has more threads per inch, such as 1/4-28. A nut must match both the diameter and the thread count of the bolt or rod.

When should I use fine thread?
Fine thread holds better against vibration and allows finer adjustment. It is common on instruments, older machinery and some marine fittings.

How strong are brass fasteners?
Brass is softer and weaker than steel or stainless steel, so brass fasteners are best for light duty, decorative and electrical work rather than structural loads. Tighten them by hand or with light torque; overtightening can strip threads or twist off a screw.
