FAQ

What is the difference between Grade 2, Grade 5 and Grade 8?
Grade 2 is low carbon steel with no head markings (74,000 psi minimum tensile in 1/4" to 3/4"). Grade 5 is medium carbon steel, heat treated, with 3 radial lines on the head (120,000 psi). Grade 8 is medium carbon alloy steel, heat treated, with 6 radial lines on the head (150,000 psi). Pair each grade with a nut of the same grade or higher.

What finish do these bolts have?
Zinc plating (clear or yellow) resists rust indoors and in dry areas. Plain (black) steel has only a light oil and should be painted or kept dry. For outdoor or wet use, choose hot dip galvanized or stainless steel bolts.
