Galvanized Hex Lag Bolts

Galvanized hex lag bolts (lag screws) are heavy wood screws with a hex head and a gimlet point. They fasten into solid wood where you can't reach the other side for a nut, such as deck ledgers, posts and heavy framing. The hot dip galvanized finish resists rust in pressure treated lumber and outdoors. Use them with galvanized flat washers. We stock 1/4" through 3/4" in lengths up to 24".

FAQ

Do lag bolts need a pilot hole?
Yes. Drill a clearance hole the full diameter for the smooth shank, and a smaller pilot hole for the threaded part. Without a pilot hole, the wood can split or the screw can snap.

Can I use a nut with a lag bolt?
No. Lag screws have wood threads and a pointed tip. If you need a nut, use a galvanized hex or carriage bolt.
