Stainless Metric Lifting Eye Bolts - DIN 580

Stainless Steel Metric Lifting Eye Bolts – DIN 580

A2 (18-8 / 304) stainless steel shouldered metric lifting eye bolts screw into a tapped hole to add a lifting or tie-down point. Cast in one piece with a collar and dimensions similar to DIN 580, they resist rust outdoors, in wet locations and near salt water. We stock M6 x 1.0, M8 x 1.25, M10 x 1.5 and M12 x 1.75, with working load limits from 70 kg (154 lb) to 340 kg (750 lb). Full dimensions and load limits are on the Data Sheet (PDF) below.

A2 (18-8) Stainless Steel – Shouldered – Metric Coarse Thread

Common Uses

  • Lifting motors, pumps, gearboxes and machinery
  • Marine rigging, davits and dock hardware
  • Food and process equipment
  • Outdoor and wet installations where rust is a problem

How to Choose

  • Thread: match the eye bolt to the tapped hole (M6 x 1.0, M8 x 1.25, M10 x 1.5 or M12 x 1.75).
  • Load: pick a size whose Working Load Limit (WLL) is above your load – 70 kg (M6), 140 kg (M8), 230 kg (M10) or 340 kg (M12), in-line pull.
  • Thread length: the tapped hole must be deep enough for the full thread length (l) – see the Data Sheet (PDF).
  • Grade: A2 (304) is right for most outdoor use. For salt water or chemicals, ask us about A4 (316) stainless.

Installation & Safety

  • Screw the eye bolt in all the way so the collar sits flat and firm on the load surface. Do not use washers or spacers under the collar.
  • Load in line with the thread for the full WLL. Angled loads lower the capacity; never load sideways across the eye.
  • The tapped material must also be strong enough for the load – the WLL is the rating of the eye bolt only.
  • Use an anti-seize compound to help prevent galling of the stainless threads.
  • Never exceed the WLL, do not shock load, and do not use for lifting people.

FAQ

Eye bolt or eye nut?
An eye bolt screws into a tapped hole. An eye nut threads onto a bolt, stud or threaded rod that is already in place.

What is the working load limit of a stainless metric lifting eye bolt?
70 kg (154 lb) for M6, 140 kg (309 lb) for M8, 230 kg (507 lb) for M10 and 340 kg (750 lb) for M12, for an in-line (straight) pull. See the Data Sheet (PDF) for all sizes.

Are these DIN 580 eye bolts?
They are cast A2 stainless eye bolts with dimensions similar to DIN 580. The DIN 580 standard itself covers the drop-forged carbon steel type.

What is A2 stainless steel?
A2 is the metric (ISO 3506) name for 304 type stainless steel, the same family as 18-8. A4 is the 316 type, for salt water and chemicals.
