Caring for Chrome Fasteners
- Use a well-fitting wrench, socket or hex key to avoid scratching the plating.
- Chrome plating is decorative. For salt water or harsh outdoor use, consider stainless steel fasteners.
- Clean with a mild cleaner and soft cloth; avoid abrasive pads.
- Use anti-seize or a drop of oil on threads to make future removal easier.

FAQ
What are chrome fasteners used for?
Chrome fasteners are used where appearance matters: motorcycles, custom cars and trucks, boats, engines and display equipment. They replace plain bolts and nuts with a bright, polished finish.
Are chrome bolts as strong as regular bolts?
Strength depends on the base steel. Our chrome hex cap screws are Grade 5. Check the product name for the grade, and always match or exceed the strength of the original fastener.
Will chrome fasteners rust?
Chrome plating protects well in normal conditions, but scratches and chips can let rust start. For marine and salt exposure, stainless steel is the better choice.
What is the difference between USS and SAE?
USS is coarse thread (fewer threads per inch). SAE is fine thread (more threads per inch), common on motorcycles and automotive parts. Match the thread of the part you are replacing.
