FAQ

How do I choose the right size Phillips bit?
Match the bit point to the screw size. A #1 point fits about #2 to #4 screws, a #2 point fits about #5 to #10 screws (the most common size), and a #3 point fits #12, #14 and 1/4" screws. See the Drive Bit Selector chart above for each head style.

What size Square (Robertson) bit do I need?
#1 square fits #5 to #7 screws, #2 square fits #8 to #10 screws, and #3 square fits #12 and #14 screws. #2 is the most common size for deck and wood screws.

What TORX® bit fits my screw?
It depends on the screw size and head style. For a pan or flat head: #6 takes a T15 (T10 for flat), #8 a T20 (T15 for flat), #10 a T25 (T20 for flat), and 1/4" a T30 (T27 for flat). The Drive Bit Selector chart lists every size.

What is the difference between an insert bit and a power bit?
Insert bits are short (about 1") and go into a magnetic bit holder or driver. Power bits are longer (2" to 6") with a 1/4" hex shank that locks into a drill, impact driver or quick-change chuck and reaches into tight or recessed spots.

What are magnetic hex drivers (nut setters) used for?
They drive hex head screws, bolts and nuts with a drill or impact driver. The magnet holds the fastener in the socket. Common sizes are 1/4", 5/16" and 3/8" for hex washer head self-drilling and sheet metal screws.
