FAQ

Do sheet metal screws need a pilot hole?
Yes. Drill a pilot hole a little smaller than the screw's major diameter. The screw then forms its own threads. Use a slightly larger hole in thicker or harder material.

Pan head or flat head?
A pan head sits on top of the surface and gives a larger bearing area. A flat head is countersunk (82 degrees) and sits flush with the surface when the hole is countersunk.

How are screw lengths measured?
Flat head (countersunk) screws are measured overall, from the top of the head to the tip. Pan, truss, round and hex washer head screws are measured from under the head to the tip.
