FAQ
Machine screw or sheet metal screw?
A machine screw has a uniform machine thread and goes into a nut or a tapped hole. A sheet metal (self tapping) screw has a sharp point and coarse thread that forms its own thread in a pre-drilled hole in sheet metal, plastic or wood.
What is a self drilling (Tek) screw?
A self drilling screw has a drill bit point, so it drills, taps and fastens in one step with no pilot hole. The point number tells you how thick a metal it can drill: the higher the number, the thicker the metal.
How are screw lengths measured?
Flat head (countersunk) screws are measured overall, from the top of the head to the tip. Pan, truss, round and hex washer head screws are measured from under the head to the tip.
