Brass Fasteners

Brass Fasteners

Solid brass nuts, bolts, machine screws, wood screws, washers, threaded rod and threaded inserts, in inch sizes from #2 to 1-1/2". Our brass fasteners are made from 360 brass, an alloy of copper and zinc. Brass does not rust, it is non-magnetic and electrically conductive, and it has a warm gold color that suits furniture, boats, instruments and restoration work. Brass is softer than steel, so use it where looks, corrosion resistance or conductivity matter more than strength.

FAQ

Do brass fasteners rust?
No. Brass contains no iron, so it does not rust. It will tarnish and darken over time, especially outdoors. Polish it to keep it bright or let it age to a natural patina.

How strong are brass fasteners?
Brass is softer and weaker than steel or stainless steel, so brass fasteners are best for light duty, decorative and electrical work rather than structural loads. Tighten them by hand or with light torque; overtightening can strip threads or twist off a screw.

Is brass magnetic?
No. Brass is non-magnetic, which is one reason it is used in electrical, marine and instrument work.

What should I pair brass fasteners with?
Brass nuts, washers and screws work best together. In wet locations avoid direct contact between brass and aluminum or galvanized steel, which can corrode faster when touching brass.
