Brass Hex Nuts

Brass Hex Nuts

Solid brass finished hex nuts in USS coarse thread (1/4-20 to 1-1/2-6) and SAE fine thread (1/4-28 to 1"-14). Brass hex nuts do not rust, are non-magnetic and conduct electricity, so they are used on brass bolts, threaded rod, electrical studs and marine trim. For #2 to #12 screws, see brass hex machine screw nuts.

FAQ

What is the difference between USS coarse and SAE fine thread?
Coarse (USS/UNC) thread has fewer threads per inch, such as 1/4-20, and is the most common. Fine (SAE/UNF) thread has more threads per inch, such as 1/4-28. A nut must match both the diameter and the thread count of the bolt or rod.

What wrench fits a brass hex nut?
Same as a steel finished hex nut: 7/16" for 1/4", 1/2" for 5/16", 9/16" for 3/8", 3/4" for 1/2" and 15/16" for 5/8".

Do brass fasteners rust?
No. Brass contains no iron, so it does not rust. It will tarnish and darken over time, especially outdoors. Polish it to keep it bright or let it age to a natural patina.
