R-Clips (Hitch Pin Clips)

R-clips, also called R pins, hair pin clips or hitch pin clips, are spring wire retainers that lock a pin in place. The straight leg slides through the cross hole of a clevis, hitch or bent pin, and the wave snaps over the outside of the pin so it can't work loose. They go on and come off by hand, no tools needed, and can be reused again and again.

FAQ

How do I choose the right size R-clip?
Two things matter: the wire diameter must pass through the cross hole in your pin, and the clip must be sized for your pin's diameter so the wave grips the outside of the pin. The data sheet lists the pin diameter range each clip fits.

How do I install an R-clip?
Push the straight leg through the cross hole until the wave snaps over the pin. To remove, pull on the loop and the clip slides back out.

What's the difference between an R-clip and a cotter pin?
A cotter pin is bent over after installation and is usually replaced once removed. An R-clip snaps on and off by hand and can be reused, which makes it the better choice for pins that are removed often.
