FAQ
What is a hex washer head?
A hex head with a built-in washer face. It can be driven with a nut driver or socket, which gives more torque than a screwdriver.
How is a sheet metal screw measured?
Size is the gauge (#4, #6, #8 and so on). Length is measured from under the head for pan, truss and hex washer heads, and from the top of the head for flat and oval heads.
What pilot hole do I need for a sheet metal screw?
A pilot hole a little smaller than the screw's minor diameter works in sheet metal. Drill a little larger in thick or hard material. Self drilling screws need no pilot hole in thin steel.
