Do machine screws need a nut?
They go into a tapped hole or take a hex nut or nylon lock nut of the same size. They are not for wood or sheet metal.
How are metric screws measured?
Diameter x pitch x length, in millimeters. Length is measured from under the head to the end of the screw, except flat (countersunk) heads, which are measured overall.
What tap drill and clearance hole for M3 x 0.5?
Tap drill: 2.5mm. Clearance hole: 3.4mm (normal fit).
